Due to the existing Guildford 132/33kV Transmission Substation reaching the end of its service life, a project was initiated to construct a new substation adjacent to the existing. Ultegra was engaged to deliver the critical transmission mains civil and construction works including;
- Installation and termination of new 132kV and 33kV XLPE cables for 3 x 132/33/11 kV Transformers, 8 x 132kV Feeders, 19 x 33 kV Feeders and associated 33 kV Capacitor Banks to new GIS switchgear
- Installation and termination of new 11 kV Auxiliary Transformers and Neutral Earth Reactors
- Rearrangement of the existing overhead 132kV Feeders (4 of) 93L, 93J, 93T and 93F to allow their termination onto the GIS equipment external wall bushings (staged connection applied)
- Installation of new 132kV cable sealing ends for Feeders (4 of); 228, 22U (ex 93J/2B), 9J8 and 22W. Cable tails terminated between these cable sealing ends and the new 132kV GIS equipment as to facilitate the connection of oil filled cables to XLPE type cables via bare conductors
- Installation of new 15x 33kV underground overhead (UGOH) poles and the relocation of existing overhead feeders from Old Guildford TS to New Guildford TS
- Installation of cables from the new substation to existing 33kV feeders and connections using straight through joints
- Installation and connection of the existing pilot/fibre optic cables associated with the Camellia TS 132kV Feeders 228, 22U (ex 93J/2B), 9J8 and 22W into the new substation. Which was to be completed by provided jointing into the existing pilot/fibre optic cables
- All civil work required to complete the works
- Installation and connection into the new substation the existing optical ground wires (OPGW) associated with overhead 132kV Feeders 93L and 93T. This shall be provided by jointing into the existing OPGWs
- Testing and pre-commissioning for each 132kV and 33kV feeder (including fibre/OPGW cables)
- Installation and connection into the new substation the existing pilot/fibre optic cables associated with the 33kV Feeders
- Removal and disposal of redundant overhead and underground conductors
