Marsden Park Industrial Precinct is located within Sydney’s North West growth corridor. Continued development within the area resulted in the need to replace an existing Zone Substation with a new 45MVA 132/11kV Zone Substation.
CORE REQUIREMENTS
- Civil and building works associated with physical zone substation structure, bunds, hardstand, fence, conduits etc
- Electrical fit out of the South Marsden Park Zone Substation, including the following
- 2 x 45MVA 132/11kV Power Transformers
- 5 x 132kV Dead Tank Circuit Breakers
- 12 x 132kV Disconnectors, Earth Switches and associated busbar
- 4 sections of 11kV Indoor Switchgear
- 2 x 110VDC Station Batteries
- 26 Control Panels (incl. Fibre, Communications and Security Cabinets)
- Construction of 132kV Feeder Bay within the remote end Zone Substation switchyard (incl. control panel augments)
- Installation of new 3500m 132kV Feeder, including civil works, cable install and jointing
- Construction of 5 x 132kV Joint Bays
- Extension of existing 132kV Feeder into new Zone Substation
- Design and construction of 5 x 11kV Distribution Feeders
- Removal, demolition and remediation of redundant Zone Substation
RESULTS
- Completed ahead of time and under budget
- Zero safety incidents
- 132kV Feeder Bay (remote end works) constructed and commissioned 4 months ahead of schedule
- Successful design and installation of two extensive Horizontal Directional Bores associated with the 132kV Feeder
- Exceptional community relations and stakeholder management
CHALLENGES
- Coordination of the numerous work facets involved in Zone Substation Construction in such a way as to maximum efficiency, whilst mitigating conflict between plant, personnel and competing priorities
- General security of plant and equipment within industrial precinct which is primarily vacant outside standard business hours
- Maintaining zone of influence controls in single lane closures
- Large heavy cable hauls requiring detailed calculation and planning in order to manage risk and mitigate cable / asset damage
- Excavation within close-proximity to other underground assets / utilities
- Constructing sections of the 132kV Feeder involved trenching through a retired landfill site
